Mage Realms - Game Help Manual

Peasants
Peasants are the resource that you use to draft spirits and scholars. Peasants also provide income in the form of taxes. Your peasants are updated each hour, and may grow, shrink, or remain unchanged. Peasants are also gained or lost in a successful attack.

If you have adequate housing for your military and civilians, your peasants will grow in number. However, if you do not have enough Forts to house your military, the military will move into Villages and displace the peasants. If you do not have enough Villages, peasants that do not have a place to live become homeless and die in a short amount of time. Homeless peasants consume mana, but do not pay taxes and cannot be drafted as spirits or scholars.

If at any time your total number of peasants becomes zero, your realm dies, so it is imperative that you keep enough Villages and Forts to house the military and the peasants of your realm.
